Earth-Atmosphere interactions
1. Earth - Atmosphere Interactions, Mechanisms of gas flux in the subsurface

Salt Precipitation
2. Drying porous media, Evaporation, Salt precipitation

Figure 2: Evaporation front and salt precipitation in heterogeneous porous media (after Nachshon et al., 2011 WRR)

Fractured Porous Flow
3. Fracture flow

Figure 3: Conceptual schematics of instability and dynamic processes in fractures crossing the upper vadose zone (after Weisbrod et al., 2002 JCH)

Collid transport in porous media
4. Colloid and colloid facilitated transport in fractured and porous media

Figure 4: A cartoon of colloid-facilitated transport (Modified from McCarthy et al., 1998)

Contaminated transport
 5. Contaminant transport in the subsurface

Figure 5: Various tools are being developed and used to explore the fate of contaminants (e.g., salts, Cr, PPCPs, explosives, Perchlorate and more) in both streams, unsaturated and the saturated zone, in situ.

soil aquifer treatment, optimization
6.  Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR)/ Soil Aquifer Treatment (SAT) optimization

Figure 6: Monitoring equipment being installed at one of the SAT infiltration basins (Shafdan, Israel).

Dead Sea Research
7. Dynamic processes along the Dead Sea shore

Figure 7: Dynamic dissolution of salt cores taken from coreholes drilled along the Dead Sea shore. CT analysis was used to define the dynamic pattern of dissolution channels being developed as water salinity changed (Weisbrod et al., 2012 GRL).

Completed projects include:
1.  Infiltration of highly saline solutions.
2.  Using light transmission techniques to explore transport processes in the subsurface.
3.  Flow and transport processes in fractures and fractures junction.
4.  The fate of Perchlorate in the subsurface.

5.  Transport of Cr in soils.
6.  Colloid facilitated transport of Pb and Cs in fractured chalk.
7.  Colloidal transport in unsaturated heterogeneous porous media.
8.  The use of tracers in saline water.
9.  Colloidal transport in saline environment.
10. Vertical heterogeneities of contaminants in the coastal aquifer.

11. Salinization processes at the Alto Piura aquifer, Peru.
